The Crathie cardigan was inspired by Crathie Kirk, a small rural church on Deeside famous for it's connection with the Royal Family due to it's proximity to Balmoral Castle. The church was completed in 1895 in Gothic Revival style. Although still retaining some of the more austere characteristics of Scottish churches, it has a number of decorative flourishes, hinting at it's noble connections.
