Designers Notes
The "Towie" fair isle pattern was inspired by the intricate carvings and shape of the Towie ball, a neolithic stone ball from 3000 BC. Found at Towie, Aberdeenshire, the ball is an exceptional example of this type of object and is now housed in the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. Over 430 of these balls have been found, mainly in Aberdeenshire. It is unclear what use these balls had and there is much speculation about this.
