OUR PLEDGE - 1% for People and Planet
Heritage and history are so entrenched in our products, that our legacy has always been in the forefront of our mind. From the first day the business launched, charitable giving has been part of what we do. This has taken various forms over the years and lead us to make our pledge…
1% of SALES for people and planet
One thing we’ve learned is that business is a fickle thing! Challenges are not the exception, but something to be faced daily. Whether it’s a recession, pandemic, Brexit…there’s always something that’s waiting to pull the (100% wool) rug from under us!
By making our charity donations from EVERY SINGLE PURCHASE made from our business, whether that be our website or pop-up shops, it evens out uncertainty that focusing on a single fund-raising event can bring.
And as business can be challenging, profit is not something that can be taken for granted. We therefore give 1% of the money you spend rather than from the profit we make.
For People
We’ve contributed to so many wonderful charities over the years. Charities focusing on cancer, homelessness, domestic abuse, children, the elderly, and food banks. We vary our recipients each year to help as many individuals as possible. Last year our chosen charities were:
Age UK - The UK's leading charity for older people
Crisis - The UK national charity for homeless people
Shelter - The housing and homelessness charity
For Planet
As individuals who have always had an interest in the environment, we have extensively researched practices such as carbon offsetting. Whilst tree planting can make an enormous difference, planting the wrong type of tree in the wrong place can be even more damaging. It is important to us that we support the right type of environmental projects that looked at the bigger picture. And that’s exactly what we found!
We are delighted to be a corporate partner with Scotland: The big picture
Although we think of Scotland as being a mainly untouched wilderness, it is classed as one of the most nature-depleted countries on Earth and ranks 212 out of 240 countries and territories for the state of its nature. Scotland is hoping to become the world's first Rewilding Nation, committing to nature recovery across 30% of its lands and seas.
Scotland: The big picture is working with groups across the country focusing on different habitats to restore these. With a focus on biodiversity and species habitats, they are helping communities restore the environment around them. These habitats not only include forests but also areas of peatland, salt marshes and sea kelp. Did you know that peatland covers only 3% of the land surface of the Earth but locks away more than twice as much carbon as all the world’s forests? Peat bogs have been described as "Scotland's rain forest" due to their importance in carbon storage.
