Designers notes - the inspiration behind Marischal pattern
Having grown up in Aberdeen, I'm used to the wonderful building which is Marischal College, dominating the city skyline. Made from the local silver granite for which Aberdeen gets it's nickname "The Granite" or "Silver City", it is the second largest granite building in the world. The granite quarried here was used all over the world, but particularly in London in notable buildings and as cobbles to produce hard wearing roads in the capital.
The building itself was built in the gothic style. It was originally used as part of Aberdeen University and since 2011 as the headquarters of Aberdeen City Council after extensive renovation.
